The World of Paranormal...

The world of Paranormal is one filled with intrigue, suspense and thrill, often mixed with fear, over imagination and paranoia. Indeed, up to 90% of all reported haunting experiences can be explained scientifically in one way or another, be it natural occurances, pyschological processes or simply a creative mind.

So what is the most common type of mistaken haunting experience? Well, here in Singapore, people have a tendency to lead quite boring lives. Work can sometimes take up almost 60% of our time, sleep about 30% of our time, leaving just well, 10% of our time for leisure. And if people can still find time to dabble into the paranormal with that little time left for leisure, most often than not, they seek to experience the most out of that limited time left for venturing into the paranormal.

Therefore it is not surprising that people create and fine tune their experiences to shape and conclude that they had seen, heard or felt something, just to make the experience worthwhile. Sometimes, we can even matrix our brain such that we can even describe in full detail 'the ghost' we saw, right down to the red eyes glowing at us, and the 'robe' it wore as it 'floated' towards us. So what really is it??

Just an owl, most likely. Here in Singapore, owls are common, despite the fact that most of us do not even know owls exists, or have seen one in the natural setting apart from those in the Night Safari. Here's some shots of owls that we may find, in the dark jungles, cemetries or deserted roads in Singapore:

Red eye brown hawk owl, notice its big red glowing eyes, don't they look eerie, especially at night?

The barn owl, white in colour, often mistaken as a 'Pontianak', commonly found in cemetries.

The images above are so easily mistaken for sights of the paranormal, that more often than not, people imagine they have witnessed a ghost rather than rationalize that it was probably just an owl. I mean, afterall, don't we prefer to say that we have seen a ghost, rather an an animal?

Other images like those above taken at night, clearly illustrates how likely these majestic owls can sometimes be mistaken as ghost on trees....so my fellow paranormal friends, if you are a serious paranormal explorer, lets concentrate more on trying to find true blue paranormal prove, and not delude ourselves psychologically or allow ourselves to think that all paranormal experiences are true. Because the satisfaction of capturing something real goes so much beyond bluffing ourselves and others that we really had a ghostly experience.

Forgotten Barracks...

Long time since I last explored the famous Commando Barracks.....being so intensely influenced by history, events and even an unsolved murder case, this place definitely holds down as one of Singapore's most haunted places...The whole surrounding of the place, the stretch of slope that leads up to the barracks where as you walk up the slope it reveals more and more of the majestic place, and finally reaching up to the parade square where the whole place is presented to you, it fills me more with awe than fear.....

Venture deeper inside and despite the ruins and peeling of walls and paints, you will find a place that somehow still retains its charm and beauty... signs of architecture from the past: dome-shaped walls, wooden doors and windows, greenish opaque glass windows and old switches fill the entire barracks....

The place of many stories that dates back to World War II, what an experience it is to step back into time, and try to sense and pick up the feelings and emotions associated to this place...Solitude, serene and peaceful, this place is now a forgotten landmark in our history. But it will forever be ebbed with the ghosts of the past.

Old parapets mixed with modern day window grills. A sign that someone tried to renovate the place, but whatever happened to it?

One of the many long corridors that extend on the 2nd level of Roberts Barracks. Sometimes you get the feeling that there is something at the end of the pathway...

Another long corridor...

Big hall of the army officers mess...you can still make out a wooden stage at the front of the hall...the venue for karaoke competitions and drinking contests??

Beautiful garden overlooking the perimeters of the barracks....with its trimmed grass in the past, this must have provided a sanctuary for birds and probably housed a nice scenic garden...

Vines that grow all over the barracks are common....

The barracks is run down, half filled with modern day equipments but also rich in history and olden times things....an intriguing place indeed...watch out for a night investigation soon..
